" I have to get my hands on that camera " Is what I hear most often when someone is new and talking about photography.
Here I'll show you that you don't have to have the newest gear to be an amazing photographer. It's truly about passion and art. I believe some people just have a natural ability for art and some people have to work a little harder for it. Whether it comes naturally or you work to make a dream come true the fanciest gear isn't always necessary. Knowing your gear and working it to the fullest is always best before you upgrade. I've personally stuck with my gear for a while because to me, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I personally shoot hybrid, So I carry additional items. I have cut down quite a bit on my gear because I usually take about two full bas filled with gear and always end up using about half of what I ever take. I am a crazy though and constantly feel the need to carry the " Just in case items" too. They have definitely saved me though and given some relief to brides when they all of a sudden realize they have missed a random item.
So I'll start with those: My Emergency Kit: First, My step stool. I am very short and to get certain shots I always make sure to have a small one in hand that is easy to carry around. But in a bag things like bandaids, tissue, hair pins and clothes, booby pins, bug spray, snacks and a camera cleaning kit are basic a must!
With my actual gear I've toned it down a bunch. I bring my main camera and a back up of course and my lenses. I bring two off camera flash lights which I keep one on my main camera at all times and a backup. My main film camera is a Nikon N80 for right now and I absolutely love it. For engagement session I use another 35mm camera or resort to my Mamiya 645. But I really do love my Nikon because I can use all my same lenses off my digital camera and that is a huge saver investment wise.
Digital Cameras: Film Camera:
Nikon D700 | D800 Nikon N80
Lenses: Minolta X570 with a 50mm Lens
Nikon 35mm Mamiya 645
50mm
85mm
28-80mm
70-300mm
{Lots of CF | SD Cards}
I use Portra 160/400 film 35mm and 120. I do have to say that I don't use my zoom lenses as much anymore. I stick to my primes and use my feet to "zoom" in and out if I want a different look.
I hope this helps a little when it comes just down to basics. If you'd like a little more detail on to what more I bring or use, or what I use everything for let me know! id love to help out!
